Coca-Cola has a long history of leadership and innovation in sustainable packaging. Through the years, they have marked the trend in the development of new technologies to lighten, recycle and reuse the packaging of their beverages, being the first company in the world to launch a bottle manufactured out of recycled PET.
The most recent innovation by Coca-Cola in its search to develop the bottle of the future is called Plant Bottle, a packaging made of PET plastic fabricated with up to 30% of materials derived from plants. Due to its design, just like with other traditional PET packagings, PlantBottle is 100% recyclable, and since it is not biodegradable, it guarantees that the energy contained in its materials is always recoverable.
There are no differences in the useful life, weight, chemical composition or appearance of PlantBottle in comparison with a regular PET bottle, except that from the cultivation of the vegetable materials for its elaboration through production of the resin, the traces of carbons of the PlantBottle are up to 20% less.
At present, 6 countries in the world have this innovative technology, Denmark, the United States, Canada, Japan, Brazil and Mexico. In our country the bottles will be introduced to the market as a first stage starting with the Valley of Mexico, Guadalajara, and Monterrey in presentations of 400 and 600 milliliters of classic Coca-Cola.

“Specifically at Arca, during the last years, we have reduced in 25% the weight of our PET packaging”, he added.
Some of the actions in environmental matter started at Arca are: reduction in water consumption per liter of beverage produced; installation of Water Treatment plants; Energy Efficiency programs and Social Reforestation programs by Arca Volunteers, among others.
